Professional Training
Family Planning NT offers a wide range of accredited training courses specialising in sexual and reproductive health matters for the health professional. Courses for doctors, nurses and health workers are offered throughout the year at a number of centres across the Northern Territory. As a Registered Training Organisation we offer qualifications that are recognised Australia-wide.

To enrol in training through Family Planning NT download a copy of the 2013 Training Application Form for all courses and return it as early as possible via fax, post or email. If you have completed the theory component of one of our courses and wish to apply to complete the clinical component please download, complete and return the 2013 Clinical Training Application Form - Only use once theory training complete. All applicants are encouraged to read the Participant Information Handbook and the Training Course Refund Policy prior to applying for training.
To request an extension to an assessment item please complete the Application for Extension Form and return it by fax or post.
For Registered Nurses
Well Women’s Screening The training provides participants with knowledge and skills in performing Well Women’s Health checks including correctly completing pap smears and STI checks as well as addressing general women’s health issues. This training is composed of a five day interactive workshop providing the clinical knowledge and skills required to undertake work as a Well Women’s Nurse. The participant then demonstrates this skill and knowledge through submission of an open book test and demonstration of clinical competency in six clinically supervised well women’s checks and the documentation of fifteen Pap smears.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Course
This course will provide participants with a nationally recognised Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health Nursing. The course incorporates a five day workshop and written assignment as well as a clinical training component of approximately 38 hours duration.
Please note that this course has a prerequisite requirement of completion of the theoretical component of the Well Women's Health Screening Training.

For Medical Doctors
Sexual and Reproductive Health Course This course will provide participants with a nationally recognised Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health. The course incorporates a 5 days theory course and written assignment as well as a clinical training component of 7 x 3 hour clinics. For more information please see the course brochure.
2013 S&RH Course for Doctors
Alternatively, Doctors can complete the FPNSW online Sexual and Reproductive Health Course for the theoretical portion of the course, completing their clinical training with Family Planning NT. Please contact Family Planning NT if you wish to complete the course this way to discuss the availability of clinical training places.
Implanon® Insertion and Removal Training For further information on training in Implanon insertion and removal please see the MSD Online website.
Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) Insertion and Removal Training Training sessions are held throughout the year for doctors looking to acquire the clinical skills and knowledge required to perform the insertion and removal of IUCDs. For Aboriginal Health WorkersCourse in Women’s Sexual Health This course provides Aboriginal Health Workers with knowledge and skills in the area of Women’s Sexual Health. This is a Certificate IV level course and comprises a full unit of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Course. For more information please contact our Education Officer.
Course in Men’s Sexual Health This course provides Aboriginal Health Workers with knowledge and skills in the area of Men’s Sexual Health. This is a Certificate IV level course and comprises a full unit of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Course. Family Planning NT offers community education to a wide range of groups including schools, community groups, not-for-profit organisations and government and non-government organisations. Our experienced educators can provide tailored training programs in all aspects of sexual and reproductive health. Use of our on-site training room offers a fully equipped training facility as well as providing the opportunity for participants to familiarise themselves with the training, education and clinical facilities available at Family Planning NT and providing access to a wide range of resources. For off-site training sufficient equipment must be provided to enable appropriate presentation and facilitation. To discuss the training and education needs of your organisation please contact our Clinical, Workforce Development and Education Team Manager.

Workforce Development for Community WorkersFamily Planning NT in conjunction with Charles Darwin University are offering training in sexual and reproductive health for people engaged in the community sector.
